Francis Omoruyi’s training and practice puts him in the unique position of being a specialist in both teacher education and skills development.  He holds an MSc degree in Education, specializing in Administration and Supervision.  He is also a Chartered Engineer.


Omoruyi’s career includes 23 exemplary years with the Toronto District School Board in Canada, and as a Service Engineer for 3 years in Nigeria.  He is a leader in educational innovation - specifically in curriculum development and implementation.   In May 1995, he was recognized by the Scarborough Board of Education for an outstanding contribution to the future of public education as a member of its Strategic Planning Team. Educated in Nigeria, Canada, Britain, and the United States of America; Omoruyi is completing a doctoral degree in Education at the University of Durham in the United Kingdom. His research covers the areas of professional development, technical education & vocational training, and teachers’ performance appraisal.


Omoruyi has always been an enthusiastic and active participant in campus and community life.  At the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Education, he was engaged and made a contribution as an associate teacher.  He served as President of the Faculty’s Alumni Association from 1983 – 1985 and also chaired the new courses review committee and helped to formulate the Faculty’s fundraising strategy. 

Omoruyi has been a member of the Toronto Board of Trade, served as a Commissioner for the City of Toronto Parking Authority and is currently on the Provincial Board of Dietitians of Ontario. 

Omoruyi is a dual citizen of Canada and Nigeria.  He has travelled extensively and is acutely cross-culturally aware and sensitive.
